2019: The Year You Secure Your Energy Future

January 9, 2019

“One of the biggest advantages of having your electrical energy offset by solar
is that you are protected from ever increasing energy costs.”

2018 brought many changes to the solar industry. We started off the year with a new tax plan that had complicated implications for those looking to invest in solar. Then a tariff on solar panels and metals made pricing even more unpredictable. Eventually, our distributors and manufacturers figured it all out, and in the end material pricing was about the same as it was before. Pricing seems to have hit the bottom, and is now working back up because of the cost of doing business.

The last two months of every year are generally our busiest, as people want to make sure they get the tax credit for that year and we do our best to make that happen. The tax credit for a solar investment has remained steady at 30% since its inception, but 2019 is the last year at this rate. Starting January 1, 2020, the tax credit will drop to 26%. We anticipate the normal backlog of jobs that we see in the last 2 months of the year will be much longer, possibly 4-5 months. This means it is important to begin the process now to ensure you can take advantage of the most beneficial higher tax credit.

We’ve already established that the cost of material will likely increase, and the cost of labor and doing business will certainly continue to increase. One of the biggest advantages of having your electrical energy offset by solar is that you are protected from ever increasing energy costs. With all of the lawsuits pending against PG&E, electricity cost increases are likely imminent.

California has set high goals for GreenHouse Gas (GHG) reductions, and it will take everyone’s effort so that future generations have the same opportunity as we do to enjoy this beautiful planet. Solar is the best way decrease your GHG emissions, followed by switching to an Electric Vehicle.
