Californians don’t usually need reminding that life can change in a matter of minutes, but be sure to have all of your bases covered by adding your new PV and battery system to your homeowners insurance policy. Systems installed on a home’s roof are usually covered by standard policies, but systems installed on auxiliary structures or ground-mounts might not be.
In either case, the value of the system should be added to the policy by the first day of installation. As soon as your contractor attaches something your house, it becomes yours and is no longer covered under the contractor’s insurance.
